Crystal Palace are interested in signing Brest centre-back Raphael Le Guen as they prepare for Maxence Lacroix’s expected move to Chelsea.
The Crystal Palace interest in Raphael Le Guen has emerged after the teenager made his breakthrough in Ligue 1 last season.
BBC Sport reports that the 19-year-old is on Palace’s radar. However, there is no indication that the Eagles have submitted a formal offer or opened advanced negotiations.
Le Guen made six Ligue 1 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign. He started Brest’s final four matches, including difficult fixtures against Paris Saint-Germain and Strasbourg.
The French defender signed his first professional contract with Brest in January. His current agreement runs until June 2029, leaving the Ligue 1 club in a strong negotiating position.
Palace are assessing several defensive options as Lacroix closes in on a move across London. ReadCrystalPalace previously reported that Chelsea were finalising a £52million agreement for the France international.
Why Crystal Palace interest in Raphael Le Guen makes sense
Palace have already enjoyed success by recruiting young central defenders from France. Jaydee Canvot arrived from Toulouse at 19 and established himself after Marc Guehi’s departure.
Le Guen would represent another long-term addition rather than a direct replacement with Lacroix’s experience. His involvement against leading Ligue 1 opposition suggests Brest already trust him in demanding senior matches.
Pierre Sage may still require a more established defender before the Premier League season begins. Palace are also interested in Augsburg’s Chrislain Matsima, who is reportedly open to moving to Selhurst Park.
Matsima would offer greater senior experience, while Le Guen could develop gradually within the squad. Palace may therefore view the two defenders as separate opportunities rather than direct alternatives.
The Crystal Palace interest in Raphael Le Guen remains at an early stage. However, Lacroix’s departure gives the club both the need and the financial room to reshape Sage’s defence.
