Crystal Palace braced for £7m move for midfielder

Middlesbrough have joined the race to sign Justin Devenny from Crystal Palace and could reportedly pay as much as £7million.

The transfer interest comes at an interesting time after the midfielder scored in Palace’s 3-1 win over Al-Ula.

Alan Nixon reports that Boro are now pursuing the Northern Ireland international and believe a deal could be possible if the terms are right.

The 22-year-old remains part of Pierre Sage’s first-team squad, but interest from the Championship could leave Palace with a decision before the transfer window closes.

Justin Devenny Middlesbrough transfer gives Palace decision

Devenny strengthened his case for more first-team involvement during Palace’s final Como Cup fixture.

ReadCrystalPalace reported on Saturday that Devenny opened the scoring in the 3-1 victory over Al-Ula. He timed his run into the penalty area before finishing at the near post as Sage’s side ended the tournament with a win.

That performance demonstrated the qualities Palace would be losing if they accepted an offer.

However, Football League World reports that Middlesbrough could go as high as £7m. Nixon also suggests Devenny could be convinced to leave the Premier League if the financial and sporting package appeals.

Palace must now decide whether his value outweighs the benefit of keeping another versatile midfield option for a season containing European football.

Devenny can operate centrally or further forward and has already gained senior international experience with Northern Ireland.

The Justin Devenny Middlesbrough transfer remains at the interest stage, with no formal agreement reported. However, a potential £7m proposal could give Palace a serious decision over the midfielder’s future.
