Crystal Palace have seen an offer worth up to €17million rejected by Torino for Swedish attacker Alieu Njie.
Pierre Sage’s side remain active in the transfer market as they reshape their squad ahead of the new season, with Palace now making a significant move for the 21-year-old.
Italian transfer journalist Alfredo Pedullà reports that Palace offered €10m guaranteed with bonuses capable of taking the deal to €16m-€17m. Torino have turned the proposal down and currently do not want to lose Njie.
Crystal Palace bid rejected for Alieu Njie
Njie came through Torino’s academy before establishing himself around the Italian club’s senior squad.
His ability to play across the attack would give Sage another young option as Palace look to increase the depth available for a season involving domestic and European football.
Torino’s rejection does not necessarily end Palace’s interest.
Pedullà reports that the Serie A club also rejected a lower proposal from Anderlecht several weeks ago, suggesting they will require a significant offer before reconsidering Njie’s future.
Palace are pursuing several young players as part of their summer recruitment. ReadCrystalPalace reported on Wednesday that talks are already advanced over an £11m deal for Zavier Gozo, another player who could provide Sage with greater options on the right.
There is no indication yet that Palace have returned with an improved Njie offer.
However, committing as much as €17m to their opening proposal demonstrates serious interest, leaving Torino to decide how firmly they intend to resist if Palace make another move.
