Crystal Palace are set to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu on a free transfer after the former Arsenal defender reportedly passed his medical at Selhurst Park.
The 27-year-old has spent recent weeks training with Pierre Sage’s squad after leaving Ajax at the end of last season. His trial has now convinced Palace to move forward with a permanent deal.
According to talkSPORT’s fresh report on Tomiyasu, the Japan international is expected to become Palace’s second signing of the summer after successfully completing his medical.
Takehiro Tomiyasu set for Crystal Palace move
Tomiyasu joined Palace during their pre-season camp in Como and featured in the 3-1 friendly victory over Al-Ula.
His fitness was an important part of the assessment after several injury-hit seasons. Tomiyasu left Arsenal in 2025 before spending the second half of last season with Ajax, where he made nine appearances.
He also returned to international football with Japan and featured three times during their run to the last 16 of the World Cup.
Palace can now add considerable Premier League experience without paying a transfer fee. Tomiyasu made 84 appearances for Arsenal and is capable of playing centrally or at full-back, giving Sage valuable defensive flexibility.
That versatility is particularly useful following Maxence Lacroix’s £52million move to Chelsea. Palace have been looking for defensive reinforcements since the Frenchman’s departure.
Recruitment is progressing elsewhere too. ReadCrystalPalace reported earlier on Wednesday that Palace are in advanced talks to sign Zavier Gozo in an £11m deal as Sage continues reshaping his squad before the new campaign.
Tomiyasu still needs to be formally announced by Palace, but his successful trial and completed medical leave the experienced defender on course for a return to the Premier League.
