Ismaila Sarr‘s failed deadline-day move to Liverpool has sparked a strong response from his agent, Diomansy Kamara, who has called for African players to have their voices heard more clearly when their futures are being decided.
Liverpool made a £50 million offer for the Crystal Palace winger on deadline day, but the Eagles stood firm and rejected the proposal. Sarr was reportedly desperate to make the switch to Anfield and told Palace he no longer wanted to play for the club after the bid arrived.
In the end, the transfer collapsed and Sarr remained at Selhurst Park.
Kamara has now broken his silence, using the failed Ismaila Sarr move alongside another collapsed transfer involving one of his clients, Lamine Camara, to make a wider point about the way African footballers can be treated during transfer negotiations.
Kamara demands more respect for African players
Kamara posted a lengthy statement on Instagram following the dramatic end to the transfer window.
“The cases of Ismaila Sarr and Lamine Camara must all interrogate us.”
Kamara then questioned whether players are sometimes reduced to little more than financial assets when clubs negotiate transfers.
“We have to get out of this logic where the African player can sometimes give the feeling that he is just a commodity: you buy it, you set its price, you negotiate its future and, too often, your will seems to go to the background.
His argument was that the player’s ambitions and career should carry more weight in such situations.
“Our African players deserve respect. The respect of their work. The respect of their career. Respecting their ambitions. The respect of their voices.”
The former Senegal international also argued that transfers should not be viewed purely as business between two clubs.
“A transfer shouldn’t just be a matter of two clubs and numbers. Behind every contract, there’s a man, a career, dreams and life choices.”
Ismaila Sarr remains a Crystal Palace player
Kamara’s comments come after a particularly difficult few weeks for Sarr.
The 28-year-old was left out of Palace’s opening two matches of the season amid uncertainty over his future. His absence followed Liverpool’s approach, with the winger reportedly making it clear that he wanted the move to Merseyside.
Crystal Palace, however, considered Sarr too important to lose and rejected the £50m proposal.
The Senegal international has been a major player for the Eagles since joining the club in 2024. He has scored 33 goals in 92 appearances for Palace, establishing himself as one of the team’s most dangerous attacking players.
Kamara acknowledged that clubs having the final say on transfers is part of professional football, but he believes the player’s position shouldn’t disappear from the conversation.
“The fact that clubs can sometimes have the final word is a reality of professional football. But one question remains: what about the career and the will of the player?”
He finished with another call for players to have a meaningful voice in decisions that shape their careers.
“The player must be able to be heard and respected in the decisions that determine his future. Let’s never forget what’s important: behind every success, it’s the players who write history first.”
The relationship between Ismaila Sarr and Crystal Palace will now be one of the biggest talking points around Selhurst Park as the season unfolds.
