Tyrick Mitchell has earned recognition from Troy Deeney after his brilliant display for Crystal Palace against Fulham, with the defender named in Deeney’s Team of the Week.
Tyrick Mitchell scored twice as Crystal Palace secured their first Premier League victory of the season in a thrilling 3-2 win. It was the first brace of his club career and his first league goals in 36 games.
His performance was enough to catch Deeney’s eye, with the former Premier League striker praising Mitchell for his consistency and claiming he deserves a place in any Team of the Week.
“Two goals from left-back. He deserves to be in any Team of the Week. He came off as well, but he’s just Mr Consistent. He’s never really spoken about enough,” Deeney said while selecting the Team of the Week.
Tyrick Mitchell gets his spotlight
Tyrick Mitchell played a key role in Palace’s comeback victory.
The full-back’s goals came at a crucial stage of the contest as the Eagles recovered from being 2-1 behind. Mitchell himself was delighted simply to have played his part in securing the three points.
“It was a tough game, they were 2-1 up and we had a lot to do, but I’m happy I could contribute and get the win,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell was joined in Deeney’s XI by an impressive group of Premier League performers.
David Raya in goal, with Mitchell, Ronald Araujo and Ezri Konsa making up the defence. Harvey Barnes, Martin Odegaard, Cody Gakpo and Cesar Palacios featuring in the midfield, while Alexander Isak and Kai Havertz leading the attack.
David Moyes was selected as manager.
For Palace supporters, though, the headline is Tyrick Mitchell. His two-goal showing has finally brought some of the attention Deeney believes he deserves.
