Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Brighton: Pierre Sage faces selection dilemma

Adam Wharton in Crystal Palace training kit amid Chelsea interest

Crystal Palace face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday, with Pierre Sage having a few selection decisions to make ahead of the Premier League derby.

The Eagles head into the game after a 3-2 Europa League defeat to Lyon. Jean-Philippe Mateta could return after missing that match, but Axel Disasi is suspended and Chadi Riad remains unavailable.

Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Brighton

Crystal Palace are expected to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Walter Benitez starting in goal, who had a brilliant game against Nottingham. Jefferson Lerma could come into the back three alongside Chris Richards and Jaydee Canvot following Disasi’s suspension.

Adam Wharton and Quinten Timber are tipped to partner in midfield, with Tyrick Mitchell and Anan Khalaili providing width. Yeremy Pino and Daichi Kamada could play behind the centre-forward.

Predicted Crystal Palace XI:

Benitez; Lerma, Richards, Canvot; Khalaili, Wharton, Timber, Mitchell; Pino, Kamada; Strand Larsen.

Mateta fitness remains the key question

Mateta’s availability could have a major say in Sage’s selection. The striker has been recovering from a hamstring injury and missed the trip to Lyon, but the Palace boss has suggested there is a chance he could feature against Brighton.

However, a return to the starting XI isn’t expected and he may feature from the bench. Jorgen Strand Larsen is expected to lead the attack.

Disasi is serving the final game of his three-match league suspension and remains out, while Riad is ruled out for the season with a knee injury.

Brighton, meanwhile, are expected to stick to 4-2-3-1. The hosts have won their last three matches and will be a difficult test for Crystal Palace. Palace will hope to repeat a similar result to their last Premier League outing, where they won 3-1. They will be eager to put behind them their Europa League loss to Lyon and put in a stronger performance against the Seagulls.
