Crystal Palace vs Nottingham Forest: Match preview, team news & where to watch

Crystal Palace return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with Nottingham Forest at Selhurst Park as the international break comes to an end.

Crystal Palace had a rough start to the season with just one win from their first five Premier League games. The only victory came in the 3-2 win at Fulham on matchweek 3. Pierre Sage’s side has endured losses against Everton and Manchester City while losing to Ipswich as well after the Fulham win. They went into the international break with a 0-0 against Leeds United.

The mixed results leave the Eagles 15th in the Premier League table, with six goals scored and 11 conceded. The forward line hasn’t found the net regularly as Pierre Sage would have liked it to. Left-back Tyrick Mitchell is their top scorer so far with two goals.

Forest are two places higher in 13th, but Oliver Glasner’s side have hardly been flying. They were beaten 1-0 by Coventry in their last game after winning 2-1 at Aston Villa. Forest have scored only four times in five league matches, while four of those games were still goalless at half-time.

The recent results leave Crystal Palace only a point above the relegation places. That makes Sunday’s home game even more interesting than the table position alone suggests.

Home form and Head-to-Head

In a disappointing run of results at home, Palace have managed to win only one Premier League match at Selhurst Park since February 22. Their home record has become a major concern. Palace have lost their last three Premier League matches at Selhurst Park and have managed only two wins across their last 16 home league games.

There is very little between these sides when recent meetings are considered. Six of the last eight have ended in draws, including 1-1 results in both games last season. None of those eight matches produced more than two goals. So a low-scoring game is expected again at Selhurst Park.

Nottingham Forest have made a habit of frustrating Palace. They are unbeaten in their last 11 meetings in all competitions and have avoided defeat in 19 of their last 22 clashes with the Eagles.

Their recent away record against Palace is decent. Forest have drawn each of their last five visits to Selhurst Park in all competitions. They have also won one of their last two away games. Oliver Glasner will be hopeful of keeping that record intact when he visits his former side where he enjoyed one of the most successful time of Palace’s history.

Crystal Palace team news and where to watch

Palace have several players unavailable for Sunday. Chris Riad is out following knee surgery, while Jean-Philippe Mateta has a hamstring injury and is a doubt for the game, and Ismaila Sarr is sidelined with a groin problem.

Axel Disasi is also suspended for the game after picking a red card while Takehiro Tomiyasu has a calf problem and is ruled out of the game. Further team news is expected after Pierre Sage’s pre-match press conference.

Crystal Palace will be hoping for a change of fortunes and expect a better result. There has been too little consistency at home, and another dropped point would leave Sage with more questions to answer and in a tough media spot.
