Fulham vs Crystal Palace preview: Team News, prediction and where to watch

Crystal Palace travel to Craven Cottage on Wednesday night for the Carabao Cup fourth-round meeting with Fulham.

Pierre Sage’s side need a response after Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United, while their opponents arrive on the back of consecutive league victories. Pressure is on Sage after failing to win the last three games and another defeat will add even more.

There is plenty at stake for both managers. The opposite has happened for Alvaro Arbeloa who had a difficult start to life in Premier League but has since found results to ease some pressure.

Sage on the other hand, is under growing pressure at Palace. A place in the quarter-finals will ease some of that, giving the Eagles a chance to put their recent league problems aside.

Fulham vs Crystal Palace team news

Fulham will be without Ryan Sessegnon, who is serving the second game of his three-match domestic suspension while Emile Smith Rowe is also a doubt after missing the 1-0 win over Coventry City.

Palace have several concerns of their own. Chadi Riad, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Quinten Timber remain sidelined through injury, while Dean Henderson is a doubt after missing the club’s last nine matches. Ismaila Sarr is expected to miss out with a groin problem, and Jorgen Strand Larsen is a doubt for the Round of 16 clash after sitting out the Newcastle defeat.

Recent form and head-to-head record

Fulham have found some momentum, beating Hull City and Coventry City 1-0 in their last two Premier League games. They also came through their previous Carabao Cup tie with a 3-2 win away to West Ham United.

Palace’s recent form offers little optimism. They lost to Lyon and Brighton before drawing 2-2 with Besiktas and falling 2-0 to Newcastle. Their only recent win came against Nottingham Forest.

However, the Eagles have a strong record at Craven Cottage. They are unbeaten on their last nine visits in all competitions, winning six and drawing three. Palace also won the most recent meeting between the sides, claiming a 3-2 league victory at Fulham earlier this season.

Palace’s recent record at Craven Cottage gives them reason to believe they can get a result, but their defensive problems and recent form remains a concern.

Crystal Palace’s European campaign is also making things difficult for Pierre Sage. The form and congested schedule makes it difficult for Palace to carve out a win.
