Palace ‘delighted’ with point from Swansea game

Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann had admitted that the Eagles would have taken a point before kick-off against Swansea City on Saturday and that they were “delighted” to finally get a result in the Premier League after a run of five defeats in a row.

Dann, who scored Palace’s goal in the game, told Mark Ritson of the Croydon Advertiser that the team were desperate to come away from Wales having avoided defeat, so were happy with the 1-1 scoreline.

He said:

The most important thing was to come away from Swansea having not lost, it’s what we wanted to do.

The former Blackburn Rovers defender admitted that his side did not play particularly well in the first half, but he was proud with how they battled to get something from the game after the half-time interval.

We didn’t play too well in the first half, they were on top for the majority, but we came out in the second half and made more of a game of it. We got the goal back and then we had a couple of half chances to take the lead. It then evened itself out and we had to show the character we’ve got that we’ve had for the last couple of years to grind it out. We would have taken a draw before the game. Swansea had been on a decent run of late with seven points out of nine going into the game and we were on a five-game losing streak. It was never going to be easy going to Swansea, so we had to dig in and show character. When you’ve lost five on the bounce, that’s when you need people to stand up.

Palace finally moved off the 31 point mark that they’d been on since December with the point, and Dann said that they’ll be hoping to improve their tally when Watford make the short journey to Selhurst Park at the weekend.

We were delighted to get off 31 points finally and now we can look forward to Watford.
