Sam Allardyce has confirmed that he is interested in signing Jermain Defoe in the summer if he is able to keep Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
One win from Palace’s last three games should be enough to keep the Eagles in the top-flight as their goal difference is vastly superior to Swansea City and as soon as his side’s top-flight status is secure, Allardyce can begin to work on securing his transfer targets and it looks like one of those will be Defoe.

The 34-year-old striker worked with Allardyce at Sunderland and was a vital member of the squad that avoided relegation last season, although his goals haven’t been enough to keep the Black Cats up this time around.
Defoe has a relegation clause in his contract and it’s only a matter of time before somebody activates it, and as reported in the Daily Mirror, Allardyce is worried that somebody else might jump the queue.
If we are safe in the Premier League and Jermain Defoe is available, and he wants to come to Crystal Palace, I would be interested. Until that time when we are safe, then I can’t pursue that. Maybe when we are safe, someone else will have already done it who is safe. Who knows? He’ll be a player in demand. No doubt.
