Dougie Freedman appointed as sporting director

Former Crystal Palace manager and player Dougie Freedman has today been announced as the club’s new sporting director.

The former Bolton and Nottingham Forest manager will be working alongside Palace manager Frank de Boer and other staff members, dealing with all footballing matters.

Crystal Palace chairman, Steve Parish said:

This is a position I have been looking to fill for a while, someone to work with the manager, myself and Head of Recruitment, Tim Coe on all the footballing aspects of the club.

I’m delighted that Dougie has agreed to accept the position and look forward to continuing Crystal Palace’s progression to become a solid Premier League club with the right infrastructure.

Freedman previously spent eight years at Selhurst Park as a player, helping the club gain promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs in 2004. He returned to Palace in 2010 as assistant manager, before being given the full-time role in January 2011.

The club made a strong start to the 2012/13 season before Freedman would depart to join Bolton Wanderers. This spell was unsuccessful, as was his most recent venture with Nottingham Forest. Freedman has been out of work since being sacked as Forest manager in March 2016.

Crystal Palace have lost their opening two matches of the season and will be looking to get their first points of the new campaign this weekend at home to Swansea, and you can get your £50 free bet here.
