Crystal Palace let a 2-0 lead slip away as they lost 3-2 to Manchester United, courtesy of an injury time wonder goal from Nemanja Matic
Andros Townsend got a bit of luck to open the scoring, as his shot deflected off Victor Lindelof, giving David de Gea no chance to save it.
United were sloppy and Palace worked hard to make things difficult for them and deserved to go in 1-0 up at half-time.
Soon after the break, a quick free-kick from Jeffrey Schlupp played in Patrick van Aanholt and the full-back drove into the United box and fired past De Gea to make it 2-0.
Chris Smalling ‘s free header got United back into the game to make it 2-1 and despite some heroic Palace defending, United made it 2-2 when Romelu Lukaku kept his cool after the ball came off the bar. He took his time and drilled home.
Palace looked like holding onto a point but in injury time, Nemanja Matic scored an amazing goal. The ball fell to the Serbian and he drilled it home on the half-volley to break Palace hearts.
Here’s how we judged the Palace players.
Wayne Hennessey - 6
Did well to close down Alexis Sanchez in the first half, giving the Chilean nowhere to place his header. Got lucky to get away with a poor bit of judgement in the 52nd minute as the ball flew over his head but Chris Smalling headed wide.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 8
Dealt with Marcus Rashford well in the second-half, with one tackle in particular standing out. Attacked with intent too and didn’t look out of place at this level.
Martin Kelly - 7
Did well for the most part, not much wrong with his performance.
James Tomkins - 5
Defended well in the first half but was far too deep when his teammates pushed out early in the second and that meant he played Smalling onside and allowed him to head home under no pressure.
Patrick van Aanholt - 7
Got the second goal by being alive to the quick free-kick and finished well. Looked a threat all game and defended well too.
Andros Townsend - 7
Got a huge slice of luck when his shot deflected off Victor Lindelof and past David de Gea, but he did well to make himself available for the shot. Put in a few decent crosses and worked hard defensively too.
Luka Milivojevic - 5
Looked good at times but will regret not closing Matic down more quickly as his fellow countryman hammered home. Even when he got there, he turned his back too and that cost his side a point.
James McArthur - 5
Had a chance to make it 3-2 but his touch let him down and United were able to clear. Good first half, barely noticeable in the second.
Jeffrey Schlupp - 7
His quick thinking to take an early free-kick was the key to the second goal. Looked good but was unable to complete the 90 minutes.
Alexander Sorloth - 6
Held the ball up well and gave United’s defensive duo a few problems. Could have had an assist but McArthur’s touch let him down.
Christian Benteke - 7
Did well to set up Townsend’s shot for the opening goal and saved a goal with an amazing goal line clearance from a Nemanja Matic shot. Nearly made it 3-2 but De Gea made an outstanding save to keep his header out.
