Palace eyeing up loan move for Drinkwater

Crystal Palace are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater on a season-long loan.

According to The Mirror, Drinkwater has fallen out-of-favour at Chelsea, with the club happy to let him leave before the end of the transfer window.

Palace’s Premier League rivals Southampton are also said to be keen on securing a deal for the England international.

Drinkwater sealed a £35m move to Chelsea last summer from Leicester, a year on from The Foxes’ Premier League title success.

However, the midfielder failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge last season as he only managed five Premier League starts.

Maurizio Sarri, who was appointed as Chelsea’s head coach earlier this month, is willing to let Drinkwater leave after the arrival of Jorginho from Napoli.

Crystal Palace are eager to improve their midfield options and are thought to be eyeing up a number of different options, including West Ham’s Chiekhou Kouyate.
