Hector Herrera has been heavily linked with a move to Crystal Palace in recent times, but fresh reports have indicated that the midfielder is wanted by European heavyweights Real Madrid and Lyon.

The Mexican international sees his contract at FC Porto expire at the end of the season, meaning that he will be available to depart to potential suitors on a free transfer.

Palace have been touted as a potential destination for the experienced midfielder in recent times but according to claims from O Jogo, as cited by Calciomercato, they will face stiff competition.

Real Madrid are reported to have expressed an interest in a deal for Herrera as they look to add further experience and quality to their pool of midfield options.

Lyon, meanwhile, have also been named as potential suitors for Herrera, who remains the assigned club captain of Porto despite the scrutiny that surrounds his future.

Palace, who have scouted Herrera in Liga NOS fixtures this season, will certainly face an uphill battle in their bid to recruit the midfielder but could be able to offer him playing time on a regular basis.
