Crystal Palace were condemned to another Premier League defeat on Sunday afternoon as Everton scored a late double to win 2-0.
The Eagles were looking to bounce back following their 1-0 home loss to Wolves prior to the international break, but Everton stormed ahead to win their third consecutive top-flight victory.
It was a cagey affair throughout but Palace had the chance to take the lead from the spot in the second half. Luka Milivojevic’s effort, however, was well-saved by the legs of Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Everton made the most of Palace’s shortcomings in front of goal, as they netted a quickfire double in the closing stages to secure an important home win.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck the hosts’ first goal of the encounter with only three minutes to spare before fellow forward Cenk Tosun doubled the lead with an 89th-minute goal.
Here are our Crystal Palace player ratings following the defeat.
Wayne Hennessey - 7
A solid display from Hennessey. Helpless to prevent Everton’s late goals.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 8
Shone again. Wasn’t at his brilliant best but still turned in a composed display and was cultured in his performance.
Mamadou Sakho - 5
Was positionally poor and never truly looked comfortable at the back.
James Tomkins - 6
A pretty typical display from Tomkins. Was solid enough at the back without being spectacular.
Patrick van Aanholt - 6
Van Aaaholt, too, was reasonably solid but saw his attacking influence limited.
Luka Milivojevic - 4
A nightmare game for Milivojevic. He struggled to influence proceedings throughout and his penalty wasn’t convincing.
Cheikhou Kouyate - 7
Turned in a resolute display in central midfield. Couldn’t quite stifle Everton’s creative influences but was strong enough.
James McArthur - 6
Got on with his job in the middle but never truly imposed himself on the game.
Andros Townsend - 5
Did little to inspire. Drifted inwards from the right-hand side but never posed a threat.
Jeffrey Schlupp - 5
Didn’t provide Palace with enough of an outlet and his final ball was poor throughout.
Wilfried Zaha - 8
Had little to feed on but still won a penalty for Palace and provided them with attacking spark. His efforts ultimately proved to be of no avail, however.
