- Crystal Palace contact Joao Gomes
- The U18’s beat Arsenal
- Liam Rosenior likely to snub Eagles
Crystal Palace are gearing up for their first-ever European semi-final, but Oliver Glasner’s players aren’t the only ones busy at the club. The higher-ups are preparing for an important summer transfer window.
The Eagles will start a new era this summer after Glasner leaves following the expiration of his contract in June. Several names have been linked with replacing the FA Cup-winning coach, including recently sacked former Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior.
Despite the club still not deciding on a successor, the transfer chiefs have worked hard behind the scenes to strengthen the squad. A new midfielder is on the agenda ahead of Daichi Kamada’s departure.
Joao Gomes Contact Made
Palace appear to be trying to win the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes. Reports claim that the Eagles have made contact with the player’s agency and the Brazilian midfielder will cost around £40m.
The problem is that Atletico Madrid are also eyeing the 25-year-old and have also expressed their interest. The La Liga giants are described as the favourites to sign the Wolves star who will likely lead a mass exodus following his club’s relegation.
Gomes has been a mainstay in Rob Edwards’ side this season. He’s appeared 38 times across competitions, posting one goal and three assists.
Palace U18’s Prevail Over Arsenal
It’s been an excellent past few days for Palace’s youth teams, and their latest feat came midday on Tuesday. Javier Alonso’s Eagles beat Arsenal 3-2 after coming from behind twice at Sobha Reality Training Centre.
The Gunners took the lead through a Ceadach O’Neill penalty, but Raihaan Anderson levelled with a beauty for the South Londoners. The hosts then retook the lead through Louis Zecevic John but again Alonso’s youngsters responded when Donte Martin netted from close range.
Martin was at it again late on, securing victory and grabbing himself a brace. The win comes after Palace beat Manchester United on penalties to lift the Premier League Youth Cup last Friday.
Rosenior Ruled Out
Palace previously admired Rosenior before his dissapointing spell in charge of Chelsea that ended last week. The English coach was sacked after a grim run of form, which looks likely to mean the Blues miss out on Champions League qualification.
Reports claim that the Eagles are likely to fail if they attempt to try to persuade him to make a quick return to management. He is looking to take a break from the game following the events at Stamford Bridge over the past three and a half months.
Palace will have to look elsewhere for a Glasner replacement, and there are several candidates. A decision doesn’t seem likely to arrive until after the season.
