- Daniel Munoz on Crystal Palace’s season
- Colombian “proud” of Conference League win
- Now focused on World Cup
Daniel Munoz has expressed his pride in having won the UEFA Conference League with Crystal Palace. The Colombian wing-back played a crucial role in the Eagles’ journey to European glory.
The 30-year-old appeared in all but three of Palace’s Conference League games and put in an excellent performance in the final. His side beat Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in Leipzig earlier this month to win their first-ever European trophy.
Munoz’s focus now is on the World Cup after earning a call-up to the Colombia national team. It’s recognition for his incredible exploits throughout his time at Selhurst Park.
“Happiness and pride” – Munoz
Munoz has been with Palace since January 2024, when he arrived from Belgian side Genk. His outing in the Conference League final saw him make his 108th appearance for the club.
The Colombian delved into winning the European trophy before heading off to the World Cup. He said (via Palace Report):
“I think it [winning a trophy with Palace and then going to the World Cup] is just happiness and pride. It’s the result of days and days, hours and hours, months and years of hard work, effort, dedication, and discipline. In the end, there’s a reward.”
Munoz is a starter for Colombia and has already earned 45 caps for his country. His nation starts their World Cup campaign in Group K against Uzbekistan, DR Congo and Portugal.
The Eagles star is one of 13 Palace players who will represent their country at the tournament. The South London outfit have more members of their squad called up for than Real Madrid.
Munoz will have a new manager
Munoz is one of Palace’s most important players, and he’ll be vital for whoever replaces Oliver Glasner. The Austrian bid farewell to the club after guiding the Eagles to the Conference League trophy.
Reports suggest Pierre Sage is now in advanced talks to succeed Glasner. The French tactician has often used a 3-4-2-1 formation at Lens, which bodes well for Munoz.
The Colombian can be expected to continue in his preferred right wing-back position if Sage does arrive. But for now, all of his focus is on the World Cup, which will be his first of his career.
