Crystal Palace vs Shakhtar Donetsk: Tyrick Mitchell Update After Liverpool Injury

  • Tyrick Mitchell forced off in Crystal Palace loss to Liverpool
  • Fears over an Achilles injury
  • Will he be available vs Shakhtar Donetsk?

Crystal Palace fans have been sweating over the fitness of Tyrick Mitchell ahead of this Thursday’s UEFA Conference League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk. The Eagles face the Ukrainian side in Poland but there had been concerns over Mitchell’s availability.

The English left-back was forced off at half-time during the 3-1 loss to Liverpool last Saturday. Oliver Glasner explained that he has been dealing with an Achilles issue:

“He felt his achilles. It’s not just today, it’s an ongoing issue he has. Our medical department is treating it very well. Today he said that he couldn’t continue. Borna did very well – he hasn’t played for many weeks.“

The 26-year-old has been crucial this season and hit 200 appearances for Palace in a 2-1 comeback win over Newcastle United earlier this month. He is dreaming of European glory and it looks likely he’ll be taking part in the encounter with Shakhtar this week.

Mitchell Fears Allayed

A report from James Savundra of Sky Sports News claims that Mitchell is expected to return to training with Glasner’s team tomorrow (April 29th). The injury isn’t serious and it was an issue that arose earlier in the week.

This is great news for Palace who will be keen to have their first-choice left wing-back fit and ready for the Conference League semi-final tie. He’s been a standout performer in the competition, featuring 10 times and registering two goals and one assist.

Borna Sosa came on for Mitchell in the Anfield loss but has struggled to impress since arriving from Ajax last summer. He looks to have made a rare appearance in the defeat to Arne Slot’s Reds.

Other Injury News

Glasner seems to have Mitchell available for the trip to the Henryk-Reyman-Stadium, but he’ll be without three players. Eddie Nketiah has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury and has played his last game under the Austrian manager.

Evann Guessand has been out of action since the first-leg win over Fiorentina in the quarter-finals due to a knee problem. The Ivorian winger’s availaibility is unknown although it doesn’t seem likely he’ll be fit.

Cheick Doucoure wasn’t included in Glasner’s squad for the Conference League as he was in the midst of recovering from an ACL injury. He has since been regaining match fitness by playing for the youth team and might not appear for the senior team again this season.
