Daichi Kamada was the star of the show as Crystal Palace took one giant step towards the UEFA Conference League final with a 3-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk. The Japanese midfielder was the best performer on the night, putting in a simply sensational performance.

The 29-year-old might be leaving Selhurst Park this summer but he’s making sure to go out with a bang. That’s a good description for his goal, pouncing in the box to drive the ball past Dmytro Riznyk.

Kamada’s goal restored Palace’s lead and it proved crucial as the Eagles went on to claim a massive victory. There is still a second leg to play but a first-ever European final is within touching distance.

Palace Beat Shakhtar

The opener came from Ismaila Sarr who scored the earliest goal in Conference League history. He struck in the 21st second to give the visitors an early lead.

Shakhtar equalised early into the second half through Oleh Ocheretko. But Kamada put Palace back in front.

The Japanese midfielder then turned provider, assisting Jorgen Strand Larsen for the third to send the visiting fans wild. A 3-1 lead is massive given that the second leg takes place next Thursday at Selhurst Park.

Kamada Masterclass

Kamada was the man of the match, putting in an unbelievable shift at both ends of the pitch. He scored and assisted, continuing an impressive goalscoring run in European competition which includes his spell at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Japan international also completed 19 of 24 attempted passes, managed a 100% dribble success, won four of five ground duels and made four passes into the final third. The statistics tell the story of what was a magnificent display.

Kamada played a crucial role in Palace’s FA Cup triumph last season. He’s proving to be just as important in the Conference League.

matchday.
