- Juventus express interest in Mateta
- AC Milan in talks with Glasner
- Palace set for big decision on Mateta’s future
Crystal Palace star Jean-Philipe Mateta could be set to follow Oliver Glasner to Serie A in the summer transfer window, with 12 months remaining on the striker’s contract in South London.
After Mateta’s goal helped Palace claim the UEFA Conference League trophy out in Leipzig, the Eagles now face a difficult decision regarding his future. With the summer transfer window fast approaching and Mateta included in the French World Cup squad, it is likely Palace will be facing high interest for the striker.
The 28-year-old has previously expressed his desire to leave Palace and was set to move to AC Milan in February. However, the £30m deal fell through after Mateta failed a medical examination due to knee issues. Mateta was fortunately able to find his way back into the squad and has been rotating with January signing Jorgen Strand-Larsen.
The French International’s contract expires next summer following a one year extension triggered in December 2024. He joined Palace in 2021 playing under Roy Hodgson and Patrick Viera but it was under Glasner that the striker truly found his place in the team.
Juventus express interest in Mateta
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport Juventus have made contact over a deal to sign striker Mateta. The Italian side has previously expressed interest in the French international. The news follows confirmation that Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic will depart following the expiration of the Serbian football player’s contract, leaving a vacancy in their starting lineup.
Mateta could be following Glasner to Serie A, with the Austrian holding talks with AC Milan over a possible move to Italy. Glasner is considered the top candidate for the job, and could even face Palace in the Europa League next season if appointed.
A Perfect Ending
Mateta’s redemption arc was remarkable. The “boom” in the Red Bull Arena in May one of the loudest of his time. After becoming unpopular due to his potential exit earlier this year, it was heartwarming for fans to see him rediscover his form and become an essential part of the squad that won Europe.
For Mateta, his time on the main stage at Palace has been hugely beneficial, with his call-up to the French World Cup Squad a dream come true.
