Crystal Palace could return for Jake O’Brien in January if Everton are prepared to let the defender leave, according to Football Insider.
Crystal Palace were interested in the Republic of Ireland international during the final stages of the summer transfer window, when Everton were open to a possible departure. However, the move never happened.
The Eagles have continued to monitor O’Brien since he left Selhurst Park for Lyon in 2023 and could now look to bring him back to south London.
The 25-year-old has struggled for opportunities under David Moyes this season, making just 16 minutes of Premier League football across Everton’s opening five matches.
Palace still have Jake O’Brien on their radar
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes Palace could revive their interest if Everton make Jake O’Brien available.
“I wouldn’t rule out Jake O’Brien to Crystal Palace, but they’re not the only ones interested,” Brown told Football Insider.
He believes Palace have an advantage because they already know the defender from his previous spell at the club.
“The key to that one is they know him, they’ve had him before so they’ll know the ins and outs of his personality, his character, how he reacts in training and things like that.”
Brown also pointed to Palace’s need for another centre-back following Maxence Lacroix’s departure.
“If Everton are willing to let O’Brien leave, then there is every chance Crystal Palace could reignite their interest, because we know they are in need of a centre-back.”
Former Everton scout Bryan King has previously claimed Palace had agreed a £26million deal for O’Brien before it collapsed late in the summer window.
