Manchester United put Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta on January radar

Manchester United are considering Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as they look for more competition in attack ahead of the January transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, Mateta is among the attacking options being assessed by Manchester United as they consider adding another experienced striker to their squad. His representatives have also reportedly made contact with the Old Trafford club.

The 29-year-old has been looking for a move away from Selhurst Park for much of the last two years and could now have another opportunity to leave Palace.

Mateta’s future could come into focus in January

Mateta’s contract situation is another factor that could make him an appealing option for United. His current deal is approaching its final months, with the striker reportedly keen to secure a move.

The Frenchman has scored 62 goals in 203 appearances for Crystal Palace, providing United with an experienced Premier League option if they decide to pursue a deal.

His future has already been the subject of considerable speculation. A potential move to AC Milan or Juventus fell through in January, while Jean-Philippe Mateta also attempted to have the final 12 months of his Palace contract cancelled during the summer.

The situation has left the seven-cap France international with limited involvement for Palace this season. He has made just one appearance so far.

United are now monitoring the situation as they assess their attacking options for the New Year. Another move for Mateta could provide the opportunity he has been seeking after a prolonged period of uncertainty over his future at Selhurst Park.
