- Clinton Morrison would take Cesc Fabregas at Crystal Palace
- Spanish coach is highly-admired
- Chelsea also linked but eyeing Xabi Alonso
Crystal Palace legend Clinton Morrison has talked up Cesc Fabregas as a possible Oliver Glasner successor. The Spanish tactician has earned plaudits during his time in charge of Como in Italy.
Fabregas is one of Europe’s most highly admired tacticians, implementing an exciting brand of football at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. He has guided the Italian outfit sixth in Serie A at present, with 18 wins and seven defeats in 36 games.
The former Arsenal hero has been tipped to end up in the Premier League where he made a name for himself during his playing days. There’s little chance of him replacing Mikel Arteta anytime soon at the Emirates.
“Really Interested” – Morrison on Fabregas
While Fabregas could return to Stamford Bridge as Liam Rosenior’s replacement, the Blues are seemingly closing in on Xabi Alonso. That makes him an option for Palace and one that Morrison feels could be a good appointment.
Morrison spoke to GOAL about the Spaniard and the possibility of seeing him arrive at Selhurst Park:
“Palace could be that. I’ve also seen Cesc Fabregas linked to Chelsea – he was a very good player there. You just never know. A young manager like that, I’d take Cesc Fabregas at Palace for sure. What he’s doing at Como, he’s been outstanding. He’s worked with a younger group and their results this season have been brilliant.
Morrison added:
“So if Cesc Fabregas is linked to Crystal Palace and does become available, he’s someone I really would be interested in. He was an intelligent footballer, a very good footballer, and I think he’d be very suitable for the club. If that opportunity came around for Palace to sign him, I’d jump at him straight away.”
Fabregas’ name hasn’t been mentioned on a list of Palace managerial candidates. The latest report claims that Andoni Iraola and Pierre Sage are under consideration ahead of Glasner’s departure in June.
An exciting option
Fabregas was our pick to replace Glasner when the Austrian confirmed his departure earlier this year. A young and progressive coach who had delivered success at Como, a club he promoted to Serie A in 2024.
While he doesn’t have Premier League coaching experience, he does have extensive knowledge of the league from his playing career. He could be a shrewd appointment and one that builds on Glasner’s historic reign.
Fabregas two years left on his contract with Como so Palace have to pay compensation if they wish to bring him to Selhurst Park. But he’d be an ambitious appointment and one that could take the South Londoners to the next level.
