Ambitious move from Palace
Replacing Glasner was always going to be a tough task, but in Sage, Palace appear to have found the perfect replacement.
Not only was he extremely successful with Lens, he also plays a similar style of play to Glasner. This means the players should be able to adapt quickly and there won’t be any delay in seeing the best of Sage’s system.
The move is incredibly ambitious, and Palace had to beat some big European clubs, and also clubs in the Middle East offering ludicrous money, for Sage’s signature.
Praise to the ownership
The speed of the appointment is also a testament to Steve Parish and the ownership structure.
Securing the appointment before the World Cup gives Sage plenty of time to settle in ahead of Palace’s pre-season trip to Lake Como.
Sage will also have time to assess his squad and make some crucial decisions surrounding transfers.
Whilst Palace’s board were dismissed for their initial support of Glasner this season in terms of Summer arrivals, they seem to have turned a corner.
The proactive approach began in the January window, where forward-thinking signings were made and the cheque book was certainly bought out.
When Glasner announced his departure, many fans worried that the club would simply revert to type with an underwhelming appointment.
However, that’s certainly not the case, and Sage will be an utterly exceptional replacement for Glasner.
The announcement is expected soon, as per reports from France.
