- Crystal Palace fans on David Ozoh
- One thinks he can replace Jefferson Lerma
- English midfielder returns from Derby loan
Crystal Palace fans are optimistic about David Ozoh having an impact at Selhurst Park after returning from a loan spell at Derby County. The Eagles youngster spent the season on loan at Rams Park.
Ozoh was a mainstay in Derby’s team, featuring 35 times across competitions and scoring two goals. He earned praise during his time with the Rams, showcasing his physicality and defensive capabilities.
Palace have a decision to make regarding Ozoh, given that, at 21, he’ll want a decent amount of game time. There’s no certainty that this will be fulfilled under whoever replaces Oliver Glasner.
Ozoh returns to Crystal Palace
Ozoh has made 13 appearances at the senior level for Palace and particularly caught the eye in a 2-2 draw against Manchester City. The English defensive midfielder could have an opportunity to prove himself next season.
Jefferson Lerma looks to be headed for the exit door after reportedly turning down a new contract. A move to La Liga could be on the cards for the Colombian, who has been used as a utility player this past season.
Palace are reportedly trying to convince Daichi Kamada to perform a U-turn over his decision to leave. The Japanese midfielder’s current contract expires at the end of the month, and he could follow Glasner out the door.
These factors could play an important role in Ozoh’s own future with the Eagles. If the midfield duo depart, there is a chance he replaces one of them while the club plot a move for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney.
“Looked good” – Palace fans on Ozoh
OurCPFC believes Ozoh deserves the chance to step up, although they suggest becoming a regular starter is “the next step” rather than an “immediate one.” They feel the youngster’s ball-carrying abilities could suit Pierre Sage if the French tactician replaces Glasner.
Read Crystal Palace’s partners asked their followers whether Ozoh should be part of a new era next season.
One fan responded: “Yes good to have on bench at least.”
Another replied: “It’s a yes from me!”
One supporter said: “Definitely be good to have him in the squad next year. Same with Cardines, Imray. Would like to see Drakes-Thomas get a loan.”
Another added: “He can be the Lerma replacement, centre mid that could do job in the back 3.”
One said: “Let’s see pre-season. In the games I watched he looked good in the Championship. He should not be a bench warmer though, if he is not going to displace Hughes and Cheick comes back, then he is too far down the list. He needs more minutes than Lerma got this year.”
Ozoh rose through the club’s youth ranks before debuting at senior level in January 2024. He’s twice been on loan at Derby and their fans are keen on keeping him.
