- Crystal Palace want Adam Wharton and Daichi Kamada to stay
- Eagles pair won Conference League on Wednesday
- Jefferson Lerma contract situation
Adam Wharton and Daichi Kamada could yet stay at Crystal Palace despite speculation linking them with moves away this summer. The midfield duo played a crucial role in the Eagles’ Conference League triumph.
According to James Savundra of Sky Sports, Palace are trying to convince Kamada to stay at Selhurst Park. The Japanese midfielder’s contract expires next month and he had been expected to follow Oliver Glasner out of the club.
The South London outfit are also eager to keep Wharton for at least one more season despite interest from several European giants. The Englishman’s contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2029.
Palace want Wharton and Kamada to stay
Palace have decisions to make heading into the summer, including who replaces Glasner. The Austrian bid farewell to the Eagles last night after guiding his team to Conference League glory.
Wharton and Kamada have been mainstays in Glasner’s team throughout his reign. Both starred in the 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano in the European final at Red Bull Arena in Leipzig.
While the club will have no say over Kamada’s decision, they seem determined to convince the 29-year-old to stay put. He arrived as a free agent in the summer of 2024 and has made 89 appearances.
Palace are in control of the situation regarding Wharton’s future, although he is in high demand. Liverpool have reportedly already held discussions with the player’s camp over a possible transfer.
Wharton joined the club from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024 for around £18m. He’s developed into one of the best midfielders in the country.
Lerma’s situation
Palace have also reportedly triggered the one-year extension clause in Jefferson Lerma’s contract. It’s said that the club are planning to hold talks with the Colombian midfielder.
Reports last week indicated that the 31-year-old had turned down a new contract. A possible move to La Liga had been speculated, but Steve Parish’s board seem keen to secure his long-term future.
Lerma arrived at Palace as a free agent in the summer of 2023 after leaving Bournemouth. He hasn’t been a regular starter this season but his versatility has been useful as he’s played in midfield and defence.
