- AC Milan now eyeing Glasner and ex-Man Utd coach
- Ruben Amorim on a three-man shortlist
- Serie A giants initally favoured Glasner
AC Milan could snub former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner and turn to sacked Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim. The Serie A giants have been in talks with Glasner in recent days.
According to The Athletic’s Matteo Moretto, Milan are expected to have direct contact with Glasner, Amorim and Al-Ahli’s Matthias Jaissle. They are yet to make a decision over who replaces Massimiliano Allegri.
Glasner appeared to be the frontrunner, with reports even suggesting he wants to take Jean-Philippe Mateta with him to the San Siro. That doesn’t appear to be the case, though, as Moretto claims that the former Eagles boss is “slightly losing ground in the preferences.”
Milan not set on Glasner
Milan are undergoing a complete reset after sacking Allegri and several directors. The Rossoneri finished fifth in Serie A this season, missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification.
The European giants will instead be playing in next season’s Europa League. There’s a good chance they face Palace, who qualified after winning the UEFA Conference League.
Glasner bid farewell to the South London outfit in Leipzig after overseeing a 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano. He has since been heavily linked with Milan while Eredivisie club Feyenoord are also eyeing him.
Amorim would be a mistake
If Milan opt for Amorim over Glasner, they will be making a huge mistake. One performed miracles at a club that hadn’t won a major trophy before his arrival.
The other stumbled under the pressure of coaching Manchester United, statistically the worst coach in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. He had been highly rated when he took charge of the Red Devils in November 2024.
Amorim’s ill-fated 14 months at Old Trafford included a 15th-placed finish in the Premier League. He was sacked in January and replaced by Michael Carrick.
