Crystal Palace Transfer News: Update on Liverpool pursuing Wharton
  • Liverpool long time admirers of Adam Wharton
  • The Reds may need to cash in to bargain with Palace
  • Palace hoping for upwards of £100m

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is attracting high attention on a potential move this summer, with fellow Premier League club Liverpool long time admirers of the England International.

Liverpool have been impressed with Wharton’s performance last season, especially when Palace travelled to Anfield and his man of the match winning performance in the UEFA Conference League Final.

Reports have suggested the Reds could make a move for the 22-year-old, with other Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester United also interested.

Since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024 on a £18m deal Wharton has been the pivotal player of Palace’s midfield, bringing stability and working well with Daichi Kamada. He contributed to all three of Palace’s trophy winning matches, and out performed in Leipzig, becoming a fan favourite.

Liverpool need exits to secure Wharton

Alan Nixon reports on Patreon that Liverpool would be forced to see the exit of one or two midfielders from Anfield before making a move for Wharton.

The Reds will be forced to cash in on players to find the cash to negotiate with Palace, as the Eagles have set a £100m price tag on the midfielder.

This price tag has seen interest from other Premier League clubs reduce amid hesitation. But with his contract not set to expire until 2029, and Palace hoping to prevent notable departures this summer, the Eagles are likely to remain firm.

European Football a Priority for Wharton

Wharton has previously expressed that he wants to take the next step up and participate in the Champions League, after an incredible season with Palace in the UEFA Conference League. Liverpool would offer him this opportunity, which Chelsea, who are also interested, cannot.

But the England international could choose to remain at Palace, especially if his midfield partner Kamada signs a new contract. The duo would be essential to leading another successful European campaign for the Eagles and fans will be hoping to secure one more season of them both.
