- Crystal Palace appoint Pierre Sage
- French coach wants to replicate Oliver Glasner success
- Explains Selhurst Park move
Pierre Sage has been officially unveiled as the new Crystal Palace manager, and he is looking to replicate Oliver Glasner’s success at Selhurst Park. The French coach has been handed the reins and is tasked with following in the footsteps of the club’s greatest coach.
Palace confirmed Sage’s appointment on Monday evening, and he sat down for an interview with club media. He has reportedly signed a three-year deal with the Eagles.
Sage is highly regarded in France following a superb spell at Lens. He guided the French outfit to a second-placed finish in Ligue 1 and a Coupe de France triumph.
“That’s why we came” – Sage on Palace
Sage is aware of the challenge that lies ahead as he tries to build on Glasner’s incredible legacy. That includes three major trophies, including the UEFA Conference League.
The Frenchman is thrilled to take charge of the South Londoners and praised Glasner. He said:
“[I am excited by] the history of the club, and by recent seasons. Oliver Glasner achieved some amazing things, and now I have to do the same. That’s why we come here with a lot of ambition. The dynamic here is really positive, and we are in this mindset too. We won last year –and we want to continue in this way, in a new club, a new project, but with a lot of winning habits.”
Sage also sent a message to fans:
“For me, the squad has to be similar to the people who will come to the stadium to see us play – we have to be in line with what they want to see. To be proud to be from South London, we have to give a good solution to the team to play as the league wants, as the league needs, but also how the fans want to see their team. We will prepare in a good way to give them what they are looking for.”
Sage posed for pictures with a Palace scarf around his neck as he prepared for his first coaching job outside of France. His backroom team has been revealed, and it includes Patrick McCarthy and Andy Quay, who are staying put.
