Crystal Palace Ismaïla Sarr Scores Twice at World Cup For Senegal

Crystal Palace forward Ismaïla Sarr scored twice for Senegal, but Norway still claimed a 3-2 World Cup win at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

Sarr’s second-half double gave Senegal a route back into a chaotic Group I match on Monday night, only for Norway to hold on and secure their place in the knockout stage. Erling Haaland scored twice for Norway, with Marcus Pedersen also on target, according to the Guardian’s live report from Norway v Senegal.

For Palace, the headline is straightforward: Sarr delivered on the global stage even though the result went against Senegal.

Sarr Form Still Gives Palace A World Cup Lift

Crystal Palace had already flagged the Group I subplot because Sarr, Jørgen Strand Larsen, Maxence Lacroix and Jean-Philippe Mateta are all involved in the same section of the tournament.

This was the first direct club-team-mate clash of that group, and Sarr made it count. His two goals sharpen the attention around Senegal’s final match, where qualification pressure is now obvious after back-to-back defeats.

Palace supporters will still take something from the night. Sarr’s movement, finishing and refusal to let the match drift were all exactly the qualities that made him such an important figure at Selhurst Park last season.

Senegal’s position is fragile, but Sarr has at least ensured Palace’s World Cup watch remains alive heading into the final round of Group I fixtures.
