Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Oscar Mingueza on a four-year contract, subject to international clearance.
The Spanish defender joins on a free transfer after leaving Celta Vigo and becomes Pierre Sage’s first signing since taking charge at Selhurst Park.
Mingueza arrives with a strong senior CV. He came through Barcelona’s La Masia academy, made 66 appearances for the first team and won the Copa del Rey in 2021 before joining Celta in 2022.
Palace have described the 27-year-old as a versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back line. That flexibility should help Sage as he starts to shape his squad for a season that includes European football.
ReadCrystalPalace had already looked at why the Oscar Mingueza deal showed Palace had a clear transfer plan. The club have now turned that agreement into their first completed summer signing.
Sage Gets First Palace Signing
Mingueza also brings international pedigree. He has won four senior caps for Spain and started in the 2025 UEFA Nations League final.
His European experience should also appeal to Palace. The club say he was named in the UEFA Europa League Team of the Season in 2025/26 after helping Celta reach the quarter-finals.
Chairman Steve Parish said Palace were “delighted” to welcome a player of Mingueza’s quality and character, adding that his “track record speaks for itself”.
Mingueza said it was an honour to join Palace and that he could not wait to see supporters at Selhurst Park.
For Sage, this is a sensible first move. Palace have added experience, flexibility and defensive depth without paying a fee. Bigger transfer decisions may still follow, but this gives the new manager a useful starting point.
