Crystal Palace Reach Oscar Mingueza Agreement

Crystal Palace have reached a verbal agreement to sign Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer from Celta Vigo, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano reports that Palace viewed Mingueza as a top “secret” target. He adds that the club agreed all terms in the last 48 hours and now consider the deal done.

Mingueza would give Pierre Sage another defensive option before the new season. The 27-year-old came through Barcelona’s academy before joining Celta Vigo, where he built up regular La Liga experience.

He can play at right-back, wing-back or centre-back. That should appeal to Palace, especially with Sage likely to need flexible defenders who can cover different roles across the back line.

Why Mingueza Fits Crystal Palace

ReadCrystalPalace has already looked at how Sage’s appointment points towards a tactical reset at Selhurst Park. Mingueza’s range across several positions would fit that approach and give Palace more depth on the right side of defence.

The move also looks sensible from a financial point of view. Palace would add an experienced Spanish defender without paying a transfer fee, leaving more room in the budget for other areas of the squad.

Mingueza’s background should help him settle quickly. He came through at Barcelona, played European football early in his career and then became a more regular senior player at Celta.

Palace have not announced the move yet. Romano’s “here we go” update suggests the main details are already in place, with the player now expected to complete the switch.

For Palace, this looks like a smart free-transfer move. Mingueza brings La Liga pedigree, a good age profile and useful positional cover as Sage continues to reshape his squad.
