Crystal Palace Transfer Window 2026 Talking Points & Facts

The Crystal Palace transfer window 2026 is the most delicate balancing act the club have faced in years.

Pierre Sage has just walked through the door at Selhurst Park, Europa League football is on the horizon, and Palace must strengthen a trophy-winning squad while fending off bids for its two most valuable defenders and midfielders.

The window is moving with speed at Selhurst Park. Sage started work on 6 July, Daichi Kamada has agreed fresh terms, Rio Cardines has signed until 2028, and the club have made clear that Maxence Lacroix and Adam Wharton will not leave cheaply. If they sell at all?

Adam Wharton’s value is what? If Manchester City are paying £116M for midfielders?

Who have Crystal Palace signed so far in summer 2026?

No senior signings have been completed yet. The early business has all been about keeping what Palace already have. Daichi Kamada has agreed a new deal until June 2027, with Fabrizio Romano reporting the agreement is done and set to be sealed within 24 hours. A day earlier, Rio Cardines signed a contract until 2028.

Sage only began work on Monday, and the bulk of the first-team squad reports back to Copers Cope Road this week, giving the new manager a clear look at his squad before incomings accelerate.

Who have Crystal Palace sold or released this summer?

The most significant departure so far is not a player at all: Oliver Glasner was expected to head abroad but resurfaced as Nottingham Forest, a move that still confuses and hurts fans. Alan Pardew was right to publicly criticised the manner of it.

On the playing side, Nathaniel Clyne is set to leave following the expiry of his contract, ending the Croydon-born full-back’s second spell at the club.

Who are Crystal Palace trying to sign?

The most advanced pursuit is Arne Engels. TEAMtalk reports Palace are pushing hard for the Celtic midfielder, who is valued at around £25m and has interest from Nottingham Forest, AC Milan, Roma and others. Palace hold a card most rivals cannot match: European football, with Sage taking charge of a Europa League campaign. The Belgian, contracted until 2028, recently changed agents in a move widely read as a push for a bigger stage.

In defence, Toulouse’s Charlie Cresswell is the name to watch. But the situation is finely poised. Ouest-France reports the former Leeds centre-back has agreed personal terms with Rennes, while Toulouse hold out for around €25m. Cresswell is understood to prefer a return to England, and Sage is said to be a big fan, but Palace have yet to bid, waiting instead for clarity on Maxence Lacroix’s future before committing.

Which Crystal Palace players could still leave?

Lacroix is the big one. Chelsea’s interest is well established, and Palace have set a high price for the Frenchman, with the club prepared to sell only if the fee is right and a replacement. Cresswell being the obvious candidate.

Then there is Adam Wharton. Liverpool’s interest has been the summer’s background noise, including a floated part-exchange involving Harvey Elliott, but Football Insider reported this week that Anfield interest has cooled and that Palace now feel entitled to a fee in the region of £100m. The going rate after Elliot Anderson’s £116m move to Manchester City and Sandro Tonali’s £100m switch to Tottenham. As of 8 July there is no bid, and Palace are increasingly confident their midfielder stays.

When do Crystal Palace kick off the 2026/27 season?

Pre-season begins in South London: Palace visit Bromley on Saturday 25 July (3PM), a fixture arranged after the planned Swindon Town friendly was cancelled. From there the squad heads to Italy for the Como Cup, opening against Sage’s former club Lens on 28 July an immediate reunion before an away friendly at Freiburg in Germany.

The Premier League campaign follows in mid-August, and there is already one diary change: the home meeting with Manchester City has been moved to a Friday night in August. The Europa League league phase arrives in the autumn, all of it against the backdrop of the newly begun Selhurst Park redevelopment, with demolition work now under way on the ground’s next chapter.
