Crystal Palace Stand Firm on Adam Wharton Amid Chelsea Interest
Crystal Palace are determined to keep hold of Adam Wharton this summer despite interest from Chelsea, according to the Guardian. The England midfielder is one of several leading players the Eagles have no intention of selling as head coach Pierre Sage builds towards a Premier League and Europa League campaign.
Why Palace won’t budge on Adam Wharton
The report says Palace are focused on adding to their squad rather than dismantling it. The Eagles are closing in on 19-year-old Real Salt Lake wing-back Zavier Gozo in a reported £11m deal and are still hunting a replacement for Maxence Lacroix, who left for Chelsea earlier in the window. It all forms part of Palace’s summer transfer business.
Holding on to Wharton fits that pattern. Having already lost Lacroix to Stamford Bridge and with Chelsea now circling one of their brightest talents, Palace’s stance is clear: the south London club want to be buyers, not sellers, as they step up from Conference League winners to Europa League contenders.
The transfer window runs until the end of the month, and Chelsea’s interest is unlikely to be the last test of Palace’s resolve. For now, the message from Selhurst Park is a firm one — Wharton is going nowhere.
