Leeds vs Crystal Palace: Sage Demands Premier League Focus

Crystal Palace vs Leeds super sunday awaits

Crystal Palace bounced back from a disappointing weekend loss at Selhurst Park by delivering a thumping 4-0 victory over Lech Poznań on Thursday night. That commanding European performance secured the ideal start for the Eagles in the UEFA Europa League group stage.

However, manager Sage immediately turned his attention back to domestic duties during his pre-Leeds press conference. Speaking shortly after the European win, Sage emphasized the urgent need to collect Premier League points, starting with this weekend’s tough trip to Elland Road.

Crystal Palace’s Clash with Leeds

Sage noted during his pre match press conference:

“It’s always good to win in cups, but the Premier League is our daily job, and we are late in this one because I think we deserved better at Everton and better maybe against Ipswich, and we have a lot of things to manage better in our way of playing.”

Facing the Elland Road Atmosphere and Leeds’ Threat

Looking ahead to Sunday’s fixture, Sage acknowledged the immense quality that Leeds United possesses across the pitch. The manager studied their recent performances closely and expects a stern test in West Yorkshire.

Sage explained:

“Now we need points, and I know that Leeds are really a good team. I saw them at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, and I saw the game against Newcastle too, and they are really, really good. We have to recover, to be fit and in shape to play against them – and why not do what we didn’t do against Ipswich?”

The Eagles boss also pointed out the unique challenge awaiting his squad inside a notoriously hostile stadium environment, stressing that Palace must replicate their midweek excellence while eliminating past mistakes.

Sage added:

“We have another context in a special atmosphere, because with the stadium in Leeds and these fans it’s really crazy, and we have to confirm what we did well this evening. We have to do better than we did against Ipswich.”

With a notoriously packed schedule ahead, Sage acknowledged the tight turnaround before kickoff.

Sage stated:

“We have a lot of challenges, but first of all we need to recover, and we need to prepare our game in two days only.”

Managing the International Break and the Festive Schedule

Sunday’s match marks Palace’s final competitive fixture before a strange three-week international break interrupts the domestic calendar. While the break creates a disjointed rhythm for club training, Sage plans to use the window wisely.

Sage noted:

“I’m not happy because I wanted to continue to work with the players, but for some of them it’s always good to come back to their country to play in another context.”

Securing a positive result before players scatter across the globe remains the absolute priority for the coaching staff.

Sage emphasised:

“But the best way to leave the team on Sunday evening is to leave with a good thing in our heads, and for that we need to win in Leeds.”

Addressing how the club will handle the upcoming weeks, Sage outlined plans to balance rest with preparation for the clash against Nottingham Forest on 11th October, keeping an eye on the grueling run of fixtures stretching toward Christmas.

Sage concluded:

“It’s the same for everybody. We knew that from a long time. We know that we can let the players recover, and after that we have time to come back to the pitch and to come back to our level of performance. But you know, we have a lot of players in national teams and the young of the academy are in national teams too. That’s why we have to build a team to play maybe one friendly game in several weeks and to prepare our game against Nottingham [Forest on 11th October]. We will let [the players] recover a little bit to be fresh and to come back because our schedules are really busy, especially from here to Christmas. That’s why sometimes when you do less, it’s more.”

Sunday’s clash at Elland Road looking to channel the clinical form from their European masterclass rather than the defensive lapses of their recent league outing. While Leeds presents a formidable challenge under a hostile atmosphere and a strong run of form, the Eagles possess the tactical blueprint and the squad depth even amid fitness hurdles to fight for a crucial result.
