Crystal Palace have had several senior players in action during the latest international break, with Chris Richards among the standout performers after scoring for the United States against Chile.
Chris Richards began the USA’s clash with Chile on the bench at Energizer Park in St. Louis. The hosts took the lead shortly before half-time through Seb Berhalter, but Chile quickly turned the game around with two goals either side of the break.
The USA levelled through Julian Hall before Richards was introduced in the 63rd minute. Less than 10 minutes later, the Palace defender made a decisive impact by powering home a header from Berhalter’s corner.
It was Richards’ fourth international goal and helped the USA move towards a 4-2 victory after Mathis Albert added a late effort in stoppage time. Darío Osorio completed the full 90 minutes for Chile.
Crystal Palace international round-up: Richards, Gozo and Kamada make an impact
Osorio had also featured in Chile’s previous match, playing 76 minutes in a 1-0 defeat against Canada in Toronto.
For the USA, Palace summer signing Zavier Gozo continued his rapid international rise. The 19-year-old made his senior debut during a 4-1 win over Peru after receiving his first senior call-up for the autumn window.
Japan midfielder Daichi Kamada also made a telling contribution. Coming off the bench in the 67th minute against Ecuador, Kamada converted Japan’s second penalty in the shoot-out as the tournament hosts won 5-4 to reach the Kirin Cup final.
Quinten Timber continued his involvement with the Netherlands, playing the first half of their 2-2 draw against Greece. The Palace midfielder had also started their previous Nations League game against Germany.
Jørgen Strand Larsen featured twice for Norway, coming off the bench in defeats against Portugal and Wales.
Pino, Ahanor and Sarr remain waiting
Yeremy Pino was an unused substitute as Spain beat England 3-2 and was then left out of the squad for their 4-1 win over Croatia.
Honest Ahanor did not feature as Italy lost 2-0 to Belgium and was again left out of the matchday squad for their 4-1 victory over Turkiye.
Ismaila Sarr also missed both of Senegal’s matches. The Lions of Teranga drew 1-1 with Mozambique before beating Ethiopia 1-0 to move top of Group J on four points.
With the international window nearing its conclusion, Crystal Palace have seen a mixture of goals, appearances and opportunities for their players across several national teams as around 11 players took part in the long October international break.
