Paddy joins Lennon’s Bolton

Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan until the end of the season, following a spell in the under 21’s side.

The 31-year-old has been on loan already this season, having failed to make an impact in the first-team since the Eagles’ promotion season of which he missed out with Peter Ramage and Damien Delaney leading the back line throughout that campaign.

McCarthy made 11 appearances for Sheffield United between October and January where he scored a goal against Leyton Orient in his second game for the Blades; the centre back also received a red card in the 62nd minute in United’s 1-0 win over Doncaster.

Neil Lennon’s side currently sit 17th in the Championship table and are looking to avoid the drop with a comfortable 10 point cushion between them and the relegation zone at this increasingly late stage of the season.

A prank call played on former Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis has now become true with Harry McLaughlin pretending to be Bolton boss Lennon on the phone, looking to take Gareth McAuley on loan from West Brom. Pulis said that the defender wasn’t available but then went on to suggest Paddy McCarthy, who he had worked with during his time at the Eagles.
