RUMOUR: Crystal Palace set to sign former U21 England International

Crystal Palace are ready to make QPR goalkeeper Alex McCarthy the club’s first signing of the summer. According to HITC Sport, sources have revealed that the former England U21 International is set to make the move across London, following QPR’s relegation.

McCarthy, 25, signed for QPR under 12 months ago but after just making three league appearances last season, due to Rob Green’s impressive form, it is likely that the shot-stopper will be looking to make the move back to the Premiership.

The six-foot-four goalkeeper was originally a Wimbledon schoolboy, so may have harboured dreams to play at Selhurst Park at an early age. Following the demise of the club, he had a youth spell at Wycombe before signing senior terms with Reading, where he made a name for himself, both in the Championship and the Premier League.

With Wayne Hennessey, linked to a number of different clubs, including the West London side, it is widely expected that Alan Pardew will be looking to sign a replacement goalkeeper as his team prepares for a third consecutive campaign in the top flight of English Football.
