Crystal Palace are worried about the fitness of striker Christian Benteke after it was revealed that he has suffered a problem whilst on international duty with Belgium, according to a report on Sport Witness.

The forward has been recalled to the Belgium squad and is eager to impress manager Roberto Martinez, especially after he was left out of their World Cup squad.

Benteke is yet to find the back of the net this season for Palace and spurned plenty of good chances last weekend against Southampton as the Eagles fell to a 2-0 defeat at Selhurst Park.

However, Martinez decided to pick Benteke in his squad, but he has now spoken about the injury concern surrounding the striker.

He said:

There are some worries around Benteke’s knee.

The news is unfortunate for Palace, who are already without star man Wilfried Zaha due to injury.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson recently claimed that Benteke was their best option up front and he will not want to lose him for the matches following the international break.

The extent of the injury is still unclear but Palace will be hoping that it is nothing major.

Do you think Benteke should withdraw from the Belgium squad?
