- Ashleigh Weerden breaks WSL2 record
- Weerden nominated for two awards
- Praise from Jo Potter
Crystal Palace player Ashleigh Weerden has been recognised for her incredible attacking performance in the Eagles promotion campaign.
Weerden has been shortlisted for two awards, including the PFA WSL2 Fans’ Player of the Month for April and the WSL2 Player of the Year. Voting has now closed with both awards due to be announced soon.
The 26-year-old was involved in all of Palace’s games this season reaching a total of 8 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.
Her attacking flair was most prominent on the final day of the season with the Eagles finding themselves level with Portsmouth at half time in a must-win crucial match.
A ball from Lola Brown found Weerden to put Palace ahead, with another goal from the pair in quick succession. The match finished 6-1 to secure Palace’s promotion to the WSL.
Weerden joined Palace in August 2024 from Ajax for the Eagles first WSL campaign, with 7 goals and 2 assists across her first season.
Record-Breaking Season
This season Weerden’s performance has stepped up, after she broke the WSL2 record for assists with 10 this season.
Manager Jo Potter credited her performance this season when speaking to CPFC: “She’s an absolute winner. She’s been key for us this season and she keeps coming up trumps.”
The 26-year-old spoke last month about reaching this achievement in such an important campaign:
“I only heard about it today. I didn’t know. I just want to be important for the team. I just want to make sure that I provide for the team. And to have these statistics, that’s really nice.”
“I do feel really confident here in the team. The players give me a lot of confidence. My coach gives me a lot of confidence. They just let me do what I’m good at, and that’s creating chances. And yeah, it pays off. So I’m really happy here.”
