Crystal Palace are closing in on the appointment of Pierre Sage as their new manager. The Eagles are likely to confirm the Frenchman as Oliver Glasner’s successor as early as Wednesday (June 10th).

Sage will take over from the greatest manager in the club’s history. Fortunately, he will have a pre-season with the squad to implement his football philosophy and assess his players.

Palace have yet to confirm pre-season friendly fixtures, but they have announced that they will be participating in a headline event.

Crystal Palace pre-season

Palace are set to travel to Italy for this summer’s Como Cup as part of their pre-season preparations. Sage will get to see his players in action in the tournament, although no fixtures have been scheduled.

The Como Cup is the headline event for the Football On The Lake festival. It takes place at Lake Como in Italy from July 28th to August 1st.

The Eagles will play two 45-minute matches and a guaranteed 90-minute third match. That will include the final of the competition or a placement match.

There are six clubs, including Palace, competing from different nations around the globe. Como 1907 will be the hosts while Spain’s Villarreal, France’s Lens, Saudi Arabia’s AIUla SC and Portugal’s FC Famalicao are set to take part.

Ironically, Sage could come up against his former employers, Lens, should he indeed succeed Glasner. There will likely be other friendly fixtures announced alongside the Como Cup.
