Crystal Palace are reportedly weighing up a move for Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell as the club prepare for the possibility of Maxence Lacroix leaving Selhurst Park.
According to GiveMeSport, Alan Nixon has linked Palace with the 23-year-old defender, with Cresswell viewed as a potential replacement option if Lacroix completes a summer move to Chelsea.
The timing matters. Lacroix’s price has already become a live Palace issue, and Pierre Sage cannot afford to let the centre-back department drift while European football sharpens the squad demands.
Charlie Cresswell Profile Fits Palace Transfer Need
Cresswell is not a speculative youth punt. Transfermarkt lists him as a Toulouse player under contract until 2028, while FotMob records 2,533 Ligue 1 minutes, three goals and two assists during the 2025/26 campaign.
That profile explains the appeal. Palace would be buying a defender already hardened by senior football in France, but still young enough to retain major resale value. At 1.90m, Cresswell also offers the aerial presence needed if Lacroix’s exit removes one of the most dominant defensive athletes in the squad.
Crystal Palace have requested full details on the deal for Charlie Cresswell, but Toulouse want to keep the player until the summer.

The key question is price. If Chelsea’s Lacroix push becomes formal, Palace must decide quickly whether Cresswell is the succession plan or just another name on a widening defensive shortlist.
