Crystal Palace sign Bethany England on two-year deal

Crystal Palace Women have confirmed the signing of Bethany England on a two-year contract, with the option of a further season.

The 32-year-old joins after leaving Tottenham Hotspur and will wear the number nine shirt.

England arrives as one of the most prolific forwards in Women’s Super League history. She has scored 87 goals in the competition, with only Vivianne Miedema recording more.

Palace confirmed the move through their official announcement, with the striker speaking about the club’s ambition and recent investment in the women’s team.

England brings proven goals and leadership

England has played at the highest level for more than a decade.

She joined Chelsea in 2016 and enjoyed her strongest campaign during 2019/20, scoring 21 goals in all competitions and winning the WSL Player of the Season award.

Her spell at Chelsea produced nine major trophies, including four league titles.

England later moved to Tottenham in January 2023 and became the club’s all-time leading WSL goalscorer, scoring 32 times across three-and-a-half seasons.

Her international experience is equally significant.

The forward has scored 11 goals in 26 England appearances and was part of the squad that won Euro 2022. She also featured five times as the Lionesses reached the 2023 World Cup final.

ReadCrystalPalace recently examined how Jo Potter is reshaping the squad after promotion.

England gives Palace a recognised focal point and a player capable of deciding tight WSL matches. Her movement in the penalty area and finishing should provide an immediate lift to a side preparing for another demanding top-flight campaign.

Jo Potter described the striker as someone who has scored goals throughout her career and expects her to play a crucial role next season.

Palace have added more than a famous name. They have signed a proven leader with the experience to help establish the club at WSL level.
