Daichi Kamada has revealed that advice from his parents convinced him to reject a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia and remain at Crystal Palace.
Kamada received an offer from the Saudi Pro League last winter and initially considered bringing his career in Europe to an end.
Speaking in a TV Asahi documentary, relayed by the Evening Standard, the midfielder admitted that the financial package made the proposal difficult to ignore.
However, his parents gave him a clear response when he asked for their opinion.
“I thought my parents would be thrilled, but they told me: ‘At this timing, absolutely do not go,’” Kamada said.
Daichi Kamada Crystal Palace contract explained
Kamada eventually decided to continue competing in the Premier League and signed a new one-year Palace deal.
The 29-year-old explored his options before committing his future to Selhurst Park. He still hopes to represent one of Europe’s leading clubs, but believes few realistic destinations could currently offer a better overall situation than Palace.
Kamada highlighted European football, the standard of the Premier League and his family’s happiness in London as major factors behind his decision.
He also viewed Palace’s willingness to approve only a one-year extension as evidence of the club’s faith in him.
ReadCrystalPalace previously reported that Kamada had signed a new contract until 2027, ending the uncertainty created when his previous terms expired.
His comments offer Palace supporters greater clarity over the negotiations. Kamada had opportunities to leave, but the sporting challenge at Selhurst Park ultimately proved more appealing than a significant Saudi payday.
