Crystal Palace ready to sell Nigerian left back as Cercle Brugge push for deal

Crystal Palace are preparing to part ways with academy defender Tayo Adaramola this summer, with Cercle Brugge working on a permanent deal for the 22-year-old.

The Belgian Pro League side are understood to be negotiating a fee below €1 million for Adaramola, who is entering the final year of his Palace contract.

It would bring an end to a long spell away from Selhurst Park for the academy graduate. Adaramola has spent much of the last four years out on loan as he looked to establish himself in senior football.

Tayo Adaramola time at Crystal Palace coming to an end

Since 2022, the defender has had six loan spells, featuring for Coventry City, RWD Molenbeek, Stockport County, Bradford City, Leyton Orient and Sheffield Wednesday.

His time with Molenbeek gave him his first extended experience in Belgian football, with Adaramola making 14 appearances for the club during the 2023-24 campaign.

He also caught the eye during the second half of last season at Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls struggled badly during his time there and were heading towards League One, but Adaramola’s individual displays reportedly impressed.

Sheffield Wednesday are interested in bringing him back on a permanent basis, although they could now miss out with Cercle Brugge pushing ahead of them.

For Crystal Palace, selling the defender would mark the latest decision involving a young player who has spent years trying to break into the first team.

Tayo Adaramola came through the academy ranks and made his senior debut in February 2022, coming off the bench against Hartlepool. He made his first start the following month, featuring in Palace’s 2-1 victory over Stoke City.

However, regular first-team opportunities remained difficult to secure, leading to a succession of loan moves.

Another Palace academy exit on the cards

Adaramola’s potential departure would be another significant academy sale for Crystal Palace this summer.

The 22-year-old is also the second defender of Nigerian descent currently linked with an imminent move away from the club, with Mofe Jemide set to complete his transfer to Portuguese side Alverca.

Danny Imray has already left Palace after joining Wrexham for £5 million, meaning Adaramola could become the third academy player sold during the current transfer window.

Now, his next challenge could come in Belgium.

Cercle Brugge’s interest presents Adaramola with the chance to secure a permanent move and potentially establish himself in a league he already knows from his time with Molenbeek.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, appear ready to sanction the transfer as the defender enters the final year of his deal.

With Sheffield Wednesday still interested but Cercle Brugge seemingly leading the race, Adaramola’s long-running journey away from Selhurst Park could finally result in a permanent exit this summer.
