Darío Osorio first words at Crystal Palace as record-breaking transfer explained

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of highly-rated winger Darío Osorio from Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland on a season-long loan deal containing an obligation to buy.

The 22-year-old arrives at Selhurst Park as the club’s 11th acquisition of a busy summer transfer window, following arrivals such as Óscar Mingueza, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Dwight McNeil, Evann Guessand, Anan Khalaili, Zavier Gozo, Axel Disasi, Honest Ahanor, Ben Chilwell, and Quinten Timber.

According to football journalist Ben Jacobs, the agreement includes an initial loan structure with a permanent fee set at twenty-six million euros plus an additional four million euros in performance-related add-ons, alongside a future sell-on clause. This landmark valuation positions the Chile international as the most expensive sale in Danish football history.

From Chile to Denmark: A Rapid Rise

Born in the Chilean city of Hijuelas, Osorio developed his craft within the academy setup at Primera División outfit Universidad de Chile. He broke into the senior consciousness at just seventeen years old in 2021 before making his professional debut the following year. That breakthrough campaign included a memorable goal against fierce rivals Colo-Colo during the Summer International Tournament in Argentina.

Over his time with Universidad, he accumulated fifty-one appearances and scored eleven goals, establishing a reputation as one of South America’s brightest emerging prospects.

In the summer of 2023, European scouts came calling, and FC Midtjylland secured his signature. Osorio quickly justified that investment by becoming an integral figure in the Danish squad. Across his time in Scandinavia, he made one hundred and twenty-one appearances, contributing twenty-five goals and eighteen assists.

His impact was immediate, helping Midtjylland claim the Danish Superliga title during his debut campaign, a season capped off by winning the division’s prestigious Goal of the Season award. He added further silverware last term by starting the Danish Cup Final, where Midtjylland defeated arch-rivals Copenhagen 1-0 to lift the trophy.

A Flying Start and International Pedigree

Osorio maintained that exceptional upward trajectory heading into the 2026/27 campaign, registering two goals and three assists in eleven appearances for Midtjylland before sealing his switch to South London. Beyond his club exploits, he has earned twenty-two senior caps for the Chile national team since making his international debut in 2022, finding the back of the net twice for his country.

Widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents to emerge from the Danish league in recent years, Osorio brings flair, creativity, and proven winning experience to the squad as the Eagles look to bolster their attacking options for the Premier League season.

Speaking to Palace TV after sealing his move, the winger could not hide his delight.

“I’m very excited,” Osorio beamed.

“I can’t wait to start training and meet my team-mates. I’m very excited about this step. It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid, and I can’t wait to play.

“For me, it’s a personal and professional challenge. The club’s project caught my attention.

“I’m very excited to get to this club and I hope to see you on the pitch.”

Now, the real work begins. Palace have added a serious talent with a point to prove. If he brings even a slice of that Danish form to South London, the supporters are going to have a lot of fun watching him.
