Crystal Palace winger shines on international break despite Chile defeat

Crystal Palace winger Dario Osorio produced an encouraging display for Chile during the international break despite his side suffering a 4-2 defeat to the United States in St. Louis.

Osorio was one of Chile’s better performers on the night and came close to getting on the scoresheet after hitting the post during the first half. Chile created several opportunities but were unable to make them count.

Dario Osorio impresses despite Chile setback

Speaking to CNN Chile after the match, Osorio admitted the result was disappointing but felt Chile deserved more from the performance.

“It leaves a sad feeling. We deserved a little more,” Dario Osorio said. “The result doesn’t really reflect what we saw in the match.”

The Crystal Palace winger also felt there had been clear progress from Chile’s previous outing against Canada, although he knows there is still work to do.

“We saw an improvement, but we have to keep working,” he explained. “We’re a little more satisfied, but we’re not happy.”

Dario Osorio highlighted Chile’s missed chances in the opening half, believing they could have taken control of the game with more clinical finishing.

“In the first half we needed to be more clinical with our finishing,” he said. “We hit the post twice and had chances that the goalkeeper saved. We could have put ourselves in a stronger position there.”

The 22-year-old finished the game with three key passes, three successful dribbles and 14 accurate passes from 20 attempts. He also created one big chance.

Despite the defeat, Osorio remains confident in Chile’s direction and believes the squad is united behind their longer-term objective.

“We’re good and we have the coach’s confidence,” he said. “He tells us we’re building towards the qualifiers. We are all united behind that objective.”
