Crystal Palace are preparing for the possibility of receiving offers for Jean-Philippe Mateta when the January transfer window opens.
The 29-year-old is entering the final months of his contract and is expected to leave the club in 2027 after deciding against signing a new deal. The main question now is whether Crystal Palace will allow him to leave in January or keep him until the summer.
Jean-Philippe Mateta remains highly regarded at Selhurst Park and is still considered an important part of the squad when fit. However, interest from several clubs could give Palace a decision to make over his future.
Palace could cash in on Jean-Philippe Mateta
Football Insider reports that clubs from the Premier League, Europe and the Saudi Pro League are monitoring the France international. The right offer could therefore convince Palace to sanction his departure in January rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, Pete O’Rourke explained the situation.
“We do expect Mateta to leave Crystal Palace, whether that’s in January or next summer when his contract expires.”
O’Rourke added that Manchester United are not the only club showing interest, with several teams keeping track of the striker’s position.
“There are clubs in Europe and Saudi Pro League clubs who are also looking at the Frenchman in case he is allowed to leave Crystal Palace in the January transfer window.”
“A lot will depend on what Palace want to do. Do they see January as their last chance to try and cash in a Mateta? That might be something they consider for the right price.”
Crystal Palace face a difficult choice. They want to keep the forward, but the Frenchman’s desire to leave and not renew will force them to consider an offer that gives them a return before his deal expires in the summer.
