The Daily Mail are reporting that Alan Pardew and Manuel Pellegrini are both to escape an FA punishment following their heated exchange on the touchline during Palace’s 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester City on Saturday.
The incident occurred when Alan Pardew was angry at a Yaya Toure challenge on James McArthur and entered Pellegrini’s technical area. This caused Pellegrini to forcibly tell Pardew to return to his own area and sparked a row between the two managers.
The situation did not seem too serious, with both managers shaking hands shortly after the row. They also shook hands after the match and the FA seem to believe there is no further action required, with both managers seemingly forgiving each other.
Alan Pardew didn’t make much of the incident, saying:
I was a bit incensed by the tackle. I went past Manuel’s box and he wasn’t very pleased. But I went back quickly like a very good boy.
Pellegrini added to this by saying:
I don’t like protesting every decision, like Alan does from the first minute, but that was an important decision.
Pellegrini did however, admit the referee made a mistake with the Yaya Toure decision, saying:
He came into my technical zone, complaining about every decision of the referee. I think the referee had made an important mistake but that doesn’t matter, it’s just part of the game.
This hasn’t been the first time the two managers have become agitated with each other. Last year, Pardew was reminded by the FA of his responsibilities after being caught calling Pellegrini, as he put it, ‘f****** old c***’ at St James Park, when Pardew was manager of Newcastle. Pardew did apologise, however, the FA sent him a warning letter over his conduct.
